The U.S. visa is usually a sticker on the passport or travel document, which serves as authorization for formally obtaining permission from the immigration officer for entry into the country. In the United States, officers from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection have the authority to permit or deny entry.

The U.S. Embassy in Thailand is the diplomatic mission responsible for receiving and processing visa applications for Thailand. There are two diplomatic missions assigned in the Kingdom of Thailand:

U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, located at 95 Wireless Road, Bangkok 10330
United States Consulate General, Chiang Mai, located at 387 Wichayanond Road, Chiang Mai 50300
Application for a U.S. tourist visa from Thailand falls into the category of non-immigrant visas. It is also known as the "Tourist Visa B", and is issued for the purposes of pleasure or medical visits ("B2") or business ("B1").

The process for obtaining a U.S. visa includes a few steps:

Gather the necessary documents, such as passport, completed application form, photo taken within the last six months, evidence of ties to Thailand, and proof of sufficient funds. "Proof of ties" refers to evidence that the applicant has compelling reasons to return to Thailand after their visit to the United States.
Pay the non-refundable visa fee at one of the 246 designated post offices nationwide. This fee is not paid at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand.

Make an appointment through the Visa Information System and choose a site and call center services through the internet or by phone. Before the applicant may use this service, they must purchase a visa information and appointment PIN online or by credit card or through Thai Post.
On the day of the appointment, the applicant must purchase an envelope at the Thai Embassy postal kiosk. They must bring the necessary documents to window 1 and 2.
Attend an interview with the consular officer, who will decide whether the applicant is eligible for a visa."
